New Women’s Resource Center director familiar with WSU and the Palouse

Former Washington State University (WSU) academic coordinator and retention counselor Amy Sharp is returning to the Pullman campus as the new director of the Women’s Resource Center (WRC). She begins her position on Tuesday, Sept. 5.

Sharp comes to WSU after serving as the student life manager in Enrollment and Student Services at the College of Western Idaho in Nampa. There she has spent four years leading initiatives in areas of student government, student conduct, first-year experience and Title IX.

Prior to working at the College of Western Idaho, she served three years as academic coordinator in WSU’s College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences (CAHNRS) and two years as a retention counselor in Student Support Services.

Her experience also includes a two-year stint as program advisor in the Women’s Center at the University of Idaho, 2007-2009.

“We were looking for someone who is a good collaborator, someone who can advocate for our students and connect them with resources across campus,” said Brian Shuffield, executive director of Student Involvement.  “Amy demonstrated her ability to do this throughout the interview process.”

Sharp earned a master’s degree in Adult Organizational Learning and Leadership at the University of Idaho, where she also obtained her undergraduate degree in visual communication.

"I am thrilled to join the Washington State University Women's Resource Center,” said Sharp. “I look forward to revitalizing the center and building bridges between many communities. This is my dream job."

In her application for the position, she indicated that her vision for the WRC is to support and educate both women and men on agency, power, diversity and equity. She is deeply passionate about the WRC being involved in scrutinizing and engaging students in the cultural issues of today.

“Of all the different responsibilities she’s had throughout her career, it was clear to us that she is most passionate about working with students in this capacity and we’re very excited she is joining our team,” said Shuffield.
