Smart Start Program

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Utilizing a high-touch retention model delivers support for first-year students, through various means; classroom instruction, one-to-one personal counseling, and academic advising. Scholars have daily access to an academic work center, which include amenities such as; computers, free printing, and a comprehensive tutorial program. Scholars that are active in the program for one full academic year, are eligible for a partial scholarship, special activities, and priority registration for classes. All scholars work with the retention team to develop personal Academic Success Plans, financial literacy skills and campus resource guidance.

CORE VALUES & EXPECTATIONS

  1. Enroll in UNIV 295 for Fall semester; UNIV 101 for Spring semester

  2. Complete (3) counselor conferences with an SSP counselor each semester.

  3. Complete (1) academic advising session with an SSP counselor each semester.

  4. Complete all SSP progress reports in a timely fashion (weeks 3-6-9-12)

  5. Maintain a personal SSP Resource binder for the duration of the academic year.

  6. Perfect attendance at all SSP events (Retreat, Fall Feast, Gatherings, Conexion, Sophomore Sendoff)

  7. Purchase all required textbooks by the 10th day of classes for each semester.

  8. Regular study hours 

  9. Complete FAFSA financial aid application by the deadline.

  10. Complete WSU general scholarship application by the deadline.
